At the Sept. 17 meeting the Lakeville Board of Health warned residents about a scam involving fraudulent emails that impersonate town permitting staff and request payment for permits.
Board staff reported that scammers obtain permit applicant information and send emails that appear to come from the building inspector, demanding payment. The emails look legitimate, staff said, and the board posted an alert on the town website. The board advised anyone who receives a suspicious email to call the relevant town office — building, conservation, or health — before paying.
Why it matters: residents applying for town permits may be targeted; contacting town staff directly is the recommended way to confirm any fee requests and avoid fraud.
