The Riverdale City Council unanimously approved Resolution 2025-32 on Sept. 16, declaring property held by the city as lost, unclaimed, or surplus and authorizing its sale or disposal. City staff identified items from multiple departments, with the police department and the administrative fleet among the primary sources of the surplus list.
City Administrator Brooks introduced the item as a routine disposition required when the city intends to sell or transfer items of value. Brooks said the bulk of the items identified for surplus originated with the police department and included firearms that the city will transfer to an authorized dealer for resale. He explained the city cannot sell firearms directly and uses a licensed dealer to handle disposition and return fair market value to the city.
Details and process: Brooks told the council the item list also includes administrative vehicles and miscellaneous items that have been held in storage. He said the city expects to recover a portion of the replacement cost through standard disposition practices and that Casey will oversee the process this cycle.
Action and vote: Councilor Arnold moved to approve Resolution 2025-32; the motion received a second. The roll call recorded the following affirmative responses: Mister Arnold — yes; Mister Halls — yes; Mister Richter — yes; Mister Stevens — yes. The motion passed unanimously.
Ending: Staff said proceeds from disposals will return to the city and be applied according to existing accounting policies. The resolution and supporting inventory list will remain part of the public record.
