Boys and Girls Club outlines funded renovation to expand capacity at Roy Hope Center

The Boys and Girls Club of Weber-Davis presented plans on Sept. 16 to renovate the Royce City-owned Roy Hope Center, increasing capacity and adding classrooms and a dedicated teen STEM space.
Jim (club representative) said the club has been raising funds for three to four years and is taking the renovation to bid that day. He told council members the work will add two classrooms, dedicated teen space called "the Forge" for STEM and a new academic/tutoring layout intended to help students catch up on literacy and other skills. He said the club's capacity would increase from about 110 to about 170 and that the club currently has a wait list of roughly 60 children.
When asked about funding, Jim said the renovation is privately funded and that the club is "not asking you for money to do that," adding, "it will not cost the taxpayers of Roy any dollars." He said the club will coordinate staging so children can remain in program during construction.
Council members thanked the club for its local programming and noted the value of increased capacity for the community. The club said it will loop the council in for a grand-opening announcement once construction is finalized.
