Midvale police report fatal State Street crash and K‑9 team competition wins

Unified Police Department officials updated the Midvale City Council on Sept. 16 about a fatal pedestrian crash and recent K‑9 team accomplishments.
Chief April Morris said officers responded on Sept. 8 to a crash on State Street near roughly 7,600 South in which a pedestrian believed to be in his mid‑60s was struck while crossing away from a marked crosswalk. “The pedestrian passed away due to that accident,” Chief Morris said. She said two other adults in vehicles were injured and were expected to make a full recovery.
Chief Morris said the department’s major accident team handled the investigation and worked with Rocky Mountain Power after the crash damaged a utility pole.
In a separate update, Chief Morris reported that Midvale’s K‑9 officers and dogs competed in a regional event in Riverton. Officer Clark and his K‑9 Pyro took first place in narcotics building search. Officer Ryan Smith and his K‑9 Drogo took first place in patrol area search, third place in “tough dog,” and fifth place in narcotics building search. The Unified Police Department placed second overall in the agency narcotics search category, Morris said.
Council members thanked the chief and congratulated the K‑9 teams. The council did not take action on the crash report; it was delivered for information and coordination.
