Committee indicates no objections to case-by-case review of RP zoning requests

The City of Cerebral Committee of the Whole on Monday, Sept. 15 indicated no objections to staff reviewing requests to use RP zoning districts on a case-by-case basis, following a brief presentation and limited council discussion.

During the item, the presiding official presented background and asked councilmembers for feedback. The presiding official said, “It does offer some things that we don't have available through other districts. Primarily, some of the smaller setbacks allow more flexibility with putting larger building on the same lot size.”

The presenter reminded the committee that earlier direction had instructed staff not to prioritize examining use of RP zoning districts; several developers have since expressed interest in using the RP district. The presenter asked whether members were comfortable allowing staff to proceed with case-by-case reviews, emphasizing that staff would continue to evaluate whether specific proposals “fit the neighborhood, the area.”

A councilmember responded, “No concerns.” Another member said, “I say yes, mister mayor.” No formal motion or recorded roll-call vote was taken during the discussion.

As discussed, staff will consider RP zoning requests on an individual basis and continue reviewing them against neighborhood fit and the concerns previously raised. The committee adjourned and noted the full council will reconvene for the regularly scheduled meeting at 7:00 p.m.
