Badger resident praises new community center and county-supported dump day event

A Badger resident told the Tulare County Board of Supervisors that a new community center and an August 23 waste-collection event helped residents dispose of accumulated items and supported local services; the speaker thanked Supervisor Valero and county staff.
Joni Jordan, a resident of Badger in the far north of Tulare County, used the public comment period to describe a new community center and a recent waste collection event she said improved life for local residents.
"We created a community center, which was the first public space in our community, for many, many years," Jordan told the board. She said the center has hosted county services, health and human services workshops, and helped establish the county’s first Firewise community in Badger.
Jordan described an August 23 event organized with Waste Management and the county at which roll-off trucks were brought to a remote road in Badger to collect accumulated household, farm and yard items. "Their staff was awesome," she said, and thanked Waste Management and county staff who helped load material for residents who otherwise would have difficulty transporting debris.
Jordan specifically thanked Supervisor Valero for helping arrange the event and said the community hopes to make the collection day an annual occurrence. There was no board action attached to the comment; the remarks were entered into the public record.
