Officials announce new GSA director, top-ranked VCMC program and upcoming disability and fall-prevention events

Dr. Johnson also noted that Ventura County Medical Center’s family medicine residency program was ranked No. 1 in California and No. 2 in the nation by the source cited in the meeting. He said the county will host a disability summit Sept. 23–26 at the Crowne Plaza in Ventura with tracks on disaster preparedness, peer mentoring, housing and crisis intervention, and encouraged community participation.
Supervisor Lopez said the county and several cities are engaging with Clean Power Alliance business to invite the City of Fillmore to join CPA; if Fillmore adopts an ordinance to join, the city could begin receiving clean power as early as 2027. Lopez also congratulated Cabrillo Economic Development Corporation and county housing staff on the Dolores Huerta Gardens grand opening, which she said includes 58 units intended for farmworkers and veterans.
The county fire department, in partnership with the Ventura County Area Agency on Aging, will host the 2025 fall prevention forum on Sept. 26 from 8 a.m. to noon at Ventura County Fire Department headquarters in Thousand Oaks. Dr. Johnson said the free event offers speakers, balance activities, health assessments and resources, and asked residents to preregister through the fire department’s website.
Several supervisors also offered community updates and event notices: participation in Labor Day and regional meetings, local grand openings and ribbon cuttings, and community cleanups and town halls.
