Polk County approves second RFP round for opioid settlement funds and funds an impact video

The Polk County Opioid Settlement Advisory Council and public health staff recommended the county issue a second round request for proposals (RFP) for opioid settlement funding, and the commissioners approved the recommendation on Thursday.
Public Health staffer Sarah (Polk County Public Health) told the board the council reviewed grantee reports and recommended making up to $500,000 available for Round 2 of funding, with the county retaining a portion of the settlement fund for council stipends and program administration. The timeframe proposed is a calendar-year contract (Jan. 1–Dec. 31), which staff said will align reporting to the state Department of Human Services and simplify annual reporting.
Sarah said the county learned from Round 1 and will shorten the application to reduce applicant burden while keeping the required outcome and budget detail. Current grantees are eligible to reapply.
The advisory council also recommended producing a short impact documentary that would highlight partnerships, publicly share outcomes and help grantees in future fundraising. Two vendor bids were reviewed; the council recommended a local production company that reduced its bid to $8,000 (from $10,000). Commissioners approved the contract award and the RFP schedule: release at the end of October, review in November and board approval of recommendations in December.
Ending: The board approved launching Round 2 of the RFP with up to $500,000 available and authorized staff to contract for the impact video to support evaluation and outreach.
