Meeker County authorizes application for Minnesota TED grant for Hwy 12 and CSAH 34 intersection

The Meeker County Board of Commissioners voted to authorize Public Works to execute required documents to apply for a Minnesota Transportation Economic Development (TED) Program grant for the Highway 12 and County State-Aid Highway (CSAH) 34 intersection.
Phil Schmalls, Public Works Director, told the board the county submitted a separate freight funding grant at a prior meeting and was now applying to TED for funds for the same intersection. "Between these two funding applications, we'll have applied for funds in excess of the cost estimate of the project," Schmalls said, adding that if only one application is successful, county, city and state partners would negotiate how to cover the balance.
A commissioner asked whether the county had settled on a specific improvement at the intersection. Schmalls said an intersection control evaluation and a public meeting recommended proceeding toward a roundabout as the preferred solution, but he noted the design and final agreements with the city and state would be developed if funding is secured.
