Resident urges Oktibbeha supervisors to investigate parcel mapping and tax records dispute

Joseph Jones of Crawford told the Oktibbeha County Board of Supervisors that county mapping records have long misaligned parcel boundaries on property owned by his brother, Gary Jones, and that the apparent error allowed a private company to claim the house in tax and sales records.
Jones provided parcel numbers and said the county mapping department first placed a boundary line through the center of his brother’s house before 2006 and later moved the house completely off the parcel that his brother owned on paper. He said Kemp 14 LLC, formed in 2022, later submitted deeds and a warranty deed to HUD Section 8 and listed a house for sale that he said belonged to Gary Jones. Jones presented copies of tax invoices that he said showed a $39,910 improvement credit assigned to a parcel that, he said, had no structure.
“Someone talked to them and say, ‘Hey. Put this stuff back the way it was. We don’t know who did it, but it’s fraud,’” Jones told the board. He said he has spent about $26,000 pursuing the matter and that litigation is under way.
After Jones’ presentation, the board asked him to provide a concise written request so staff could review the materials; the board also invited him to request a future agenda slot for more time. A motion to accept Jones’ report (taken on the ballot) passed unanimously.
