County awards Avondar(Avendara) Love Road ERBR contract to Century Construction for $2.27 million

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Miss. — Washington County supervisors on Aug. 23 awarded the Avondar (listed in the bid packet as Avendara) Love Road ERBR project to Century Construction of Tupelo for $2,272,758.50, the low bid on the work, and authorized county officers to sign required forms and submit a state funding request for the outstanding balance.
A county engineering staff member told the board six plan holders picked up bid documents and three submitted proposals; the low bid was $2,272,758.50 and the next competitive bid was roughly $2.4 million. The engineer recommended awarding to Century Construction and noted Century has completed work for the county and is a known contractor in the region.
The board approved the award and also signed a board order authorizing the board president and clerk to sign paperwork required by the state to secure the remaining $1,079,802.07 in ERBR funds. The clerk will collect required signatures on the forms and proceed with submittal to the state.
Ending County staff will forward the executed award and state funding packet to the appropriate state agency; the engineering office is responsible for contract administration and construction oversight once funds are in place.
