Assembly maintains protest of wholesale alcohol-license renewal (No. 4860) after licensee does not appear

The Kodiak Island Borough Assembly kept on the record its protest of an Alcohol and Marijuana Control Office wholesale license renewal (license no. 4860) after the licensee failed to appear at a required informal hearing, borough staff said.
At the Sept. 11 special meeting the Kodiak Island Borough Assembly confirmed it will maintain an earlier voice protest of a wholesale alcohol-license renewal application, Alaska license number 4860.
Nova, a borough staff member handling the agenda, told the assembly that under the Alaska Administrative Code the licensee had been notified of an opportunity to appear and present the application but was not online for the informal hearing. "We have sent them an email and also a letter in the mail, and we have provided them a Zoom link for tonight's meeting. And I've observed that they're not online as of the moment," Nova said.
The packet for the earlier Aug. 21 meeting contains background materials the assembly may use to recall reasons for the protest; staff said there was no motion from the floor to change the protest, so the protest remains on record.
No formal vote was taken at the Sept. 11 special meeting to rescind or modify the protest; staff said the protest stands unless a member moved to change it or the licensee appeared to address concerns.
