The Northampton County Board of Commissioners adopted a proclamation honoring the life and public service of Fannie P. Green, a former county commissioner and the county—s first female African American probation and parole officer, who died Sept. 3, 2025.
Commission Chair Martin read the proclamation noting Green—s birth in Valentines, Virginia on Aug. 22, 1949, her education at Virginia State University and Central Michigan University, and her roles in county service, including founding Project Lift, LEARNING, Ingenuity, Fortitude, and Triumph, and serving as a town administrator for Gettysburg and as a county commissioner from 2002 to 2017. "It's with great honor that we honor her life and legacy here in Northampton County," Chair Martin said while reading the proclamation.
Lisa Mayo, Green—s daughter, addressed the board and thanked commissioners and county staff for the proclamation. "Your thoughtfulness, kindness, and recognition of her life and legacy are deeply appreciated," Mayo said.
The board voted to accept the proclamation by voice vote.
