The announcement stressed that tips may be submitted anonymously but the app is not for emergencies; callers should dial 911 for crimes in progress.
The app also offers an inmate search with booking and charge information, a schools section to connect with school resource officers at Avery County public schools, and a searchable local offender registry available by search, map or list. A welcome message from Avery County Sheriff Mike Henley is included in the app, the presenter said.
Additional features described include a "Join the Team" page for department job openings and applications, a "Most Wanted and Missing" page, a news feed for department updates and events, and links to the Avery County Sheriff's Office Facebook page. The presenter listed other tools on the app such as crime-prevention tips, medication disposal locations, addiction resources, Amber Alert information and concealed-carry permit guidance.
The announcement mentioned a section with recovery resources for people affected by Hurricane Helene. The presenter encouraged residents to search for "Avery County Sheriff NC" in their device's app store and download the official app to access the services described.
