PETA urges Gates County to update animal ordinance; commissioners to form advisory board

Rachel, speaking for PETA, told commissioners that “easy to enforce and common sense definitions and language will make life changing differences for animals in Gates County,” and asked the board to pursue updates to the ordinance and to work with community members on changes.
In response, commissioners said the board plans to form an animal advisory board to gather public input and recommend ordinance revisions. The chair directed anyone interested in serving to submit the county’s standard committee application to the clerk’s office in advance of the next meeting so members can be appointed and work can proceed.
No ordinance was introduced or voted on at the meeting; the action was a direction to create an advisory body and to begin a public process for ordinance review.
