Appointments: The board approved the following appointments by voice vote: - Clint Lewis to the Aging Planning Board and Regional Aging Advisory Committee, three-year term; - Courtney Barnhill to the Carteret County Beach Commission (term expiring Jan. 2028); - Allison Whitlow to the Carteret County Public Library Board, reappointment to a two-year term; - Judge Deborah Massey, reappointed to the Juvenile Crime Prevention Council as district court judge designee for a two-year term; - Dwight Turner, reappointed to the Newport Board of Adjustment for a three-year term.
Awards and recognitions: The board recognized Jamie Hicks Long employee-of-the-month recipients for July (Michelle Giblin, nursing supervisor, Carteret County Health Department), August (Stacy Smith, administrative assistant, Public Buildings) and September (Robert Huff, information-technology specialist). The board also presented a plaque to Larry Land for long service on the Board of Equalization and Review and acknowledged his service to the Harbor Authority.
Other motions: The board amended the regular agenda to add item 8(a) — approval of an ABC Board travel policy to mirror county policy — and later approved that item (see separate article). Several ceremonial comments and public remarks were heard, including a fundraising announcement for the Buddy McHugh Scholarship event Oct. 18 at the Crystal Coast Civic Center and a public-comment request for a vigil related to a recent national event; these were not board actions.
