Council to meet in closed session on two legal matters, city attorney says

City Attorney Bob Bauer told the Union City Council at its Sept. 16 meeting that the council would convene a closed session to discuss two legal matters: a lawsuit captioned Arvinson and Damron v. City of Eagan, and a condemnation action the city commenced earlier this year against Gopher Resources.

"Yes Mr. Mayor, we'd like to go into 2, in the closed session to discuss 2 matters. 1 is the Arvinson and Damron versus the City of Eagan. That is a lawsuit commenced by those 2 individuals and the second 1 is the Gopher Resources condemnation case that the city commenced earlier this year just to give an update on where we're at," Bob Bauer said.

The council clarified that the Gopher Resources condemnation case discussed in closed session is separate from other Gopher Resources matters that have recently appeared in the news. A council speaker noted the cases are unrelated, and the attorney agreed.

Procedural note: Council indicated it would not adjourn the public meeting before proceeding into the closed session; the cameras would be removed for the executive session and the public meeting would adjourn following the closed session. No votes or other public actions related to the closed-session items were recorded in the public portion of the meeting.
