Board approves change order adding temporary lighting and system separation for Sunset Drive/Prairie Ave signal

The Waukesha Board of Public Works approved Change Order No. 1 Sept. 4 with Zenith Tech for the Sunset Drive and Prairie Avenue traffic-signal improvements, adding temporary street lighting for safety during construction and separating the streetlight wiring from the traffic-signal system.
Staff said the original bid did not include lighting at the intersection and that for safety during construction the city requested two street lights and the conduit, pull boxes and wiring needed to make the streetlight system independent of the signal control. The total cost of the additional work is $14,588; because the project is funded through a state cost-share the board recorded the city’s share as $1,458.85 after the state’s 80% participation and a local split with the village (the city’s effective share was described as roughly 10% because the remaining 20% is split with the village of Waukesha).
Board members confirmed the city will operate the signal under the existing agreement with the village and that emergency-vehicle preemption (actuators) is standard and will function for vehicles from other jurisdictions. The board approved the change order; recorded votes in the meeting record were in favor and the motion carried.
