The Indianapolis Plat Committee on Sept. 10 approved preliminary and secondary platting for The Trees at Southport Crossing Section 1 (2025 PLT 058), a 55‑lot subdivision on about 61.55 acres in Perry Township, and granted a waiver from the ordinance’s two‑local‑streets maximum for emergency‑vehicle access.
Brian Robinson, representative for developer Davis Homes, said the site contains wetlands and significant tree cover; the developer requested a cluster plan to protect natural features while allowing compact lots. “We discussed the situation with the planning department and it was in support of the waiver,” Robinson said.
Planning staff noted the property had been rezoned earlier in the year to D3 cluster and that the cluster plan allows smaller lots and preservation of trees and natural infrastructure. Staff and the petitioner said the section accesses at least two nearby collector streets (Sherman Drive and McFarland Boulevard) through adjoining streets; staff supported the waiver given the infill character of the neighborhood and natural constraints.
The committee approved the plat subject to conditions 1–12, which included the waiver request; the chair then called the roll and the motion carried.
