A representative of Christian Church Homes (CCH) told council the nonprofit has operated low‑income housing in partnership with the City of Redding for 29 years and now manages multiple converted historic hotels and newer senior projects.
CCH said it converted the Lorenz Hotel into 78 low‑income units in a $13.5 million project and previously redeveloped older properties including the Treehouse senior apartments and the Hotel Redding into affordable units. The organization described its newest project, Piper Way, as a $33.8 million development providing 50 senior units and housing supports in partnership with the First Christian Church, county health services and Department of Developmental Services regional partners. CCH said residents’ average monthly income at Piper Way is about $1,300 and the average resident age is between 70 and 81.
Cynthia Alvarez, president and CEO of Christian Church Homes, drove from the Bay Area to join the presentation and invited council to an open house at Piper Way on Oct. 1 from 10 a.m. to noon at 3294 Piper Way. Council members thanked CCH for its long‑term partnership and the presentation underscored the role of public‑private funding and local home funds in recent senior housing developments.
No council action was requested or taken during the presentation.
