A City Food Initiative representative updated the HOPE Team on local food programs, saying the office has held dozens of community events this year and is partnering with local growers to increase access to fresh produce.
The representative said she has attended about 36 community events this year and that Partnership for a Healthier America has supported several local growers and organizations to expand produce incentives. She said about 18 growers in the city are participating in programs that will include farmer-market showcases and value-added product training for growers.
The initiative plans free classes for residents that include take-home materials. The speaker said growers are being supported to scale sales and to participate in upcoming showcases; community members were encouraged to follow the Office of Community Nutrition and Food Policy and to contact the City Food Initiative for details on picking up produce or scheduling local events.
Ending: The speaker urged attendees to support neighborhood growers and to contact the initiative to learn about free classes and local produce distributions.
