Somerville capital projects and DPW report wide summer repairs; new asset management tools on deck

City capital projects and Department of Public Works (DPW) staff told the joint School Buildings, Facilities and Maintenance Special Committee on Sept. 15 that they completed a broad set of summer repairs and upgrades across multiple Somerville Public School buildings and are moving to centralized asset and work‑order management.
“We were able to get a lot of very meaningful work done for the school department,” said Ralph Henry, director of capital projects, as he summarized upgrades that included kitchen expansions, classroom build‑outs, accessibility work and mechanical improvements.
