The clerk’s report on Sept. 16 included a resolution beginning the process to vacate a 15-foot-wide alley adjacent to Lots 17 and 18 in Clifton Park near 3360 Monroe Street.
Councilwoman Williams introduced a new-item request for alley lighting in the Columbia, Fulton, Ashland and Bancroft alley area. Williams said the neighborhood had recently seen demolition of a long-standing nuisance building and the closure of a nearby Dollar General, and she described continuing issues that make improved alley and street lighting a priority for neighborhood cleanup and safety. Williams said the prior lighting at the site had been helpful and that the removal of the structure left the area darker and more susceptible to problems.
Williams asked for colleagues’ support for alley and street lighting in the area and emphasized the lighting is intended to help the neighborhood’s recovery and safety; no formal vote was recorded during the agenda-review meeting and the lighting request was entered as a new council item for future consideration.
