Resident tells committee planned TARTA evening frequency cuts could strand riders

A public commenter identified in the transcript as Ms. Darnell told the Toledo City Council Parks, Education, Recreation and Health Committee that Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority (TARTA) plans to reduce evening service frequency starting Jan. 25, and she asked the committee to look into the change.
"TARTA is planning some pretty significant changes starting January 25. They will go from after 6 p.m., they will go from service every 30 minutes to every 90 minutes. I am extremely concerned about this," Ms. Darnell said during the public-comment portion of the committee meeting.
Darnell described prior schedule changes that she said left riders without printed schedules and recounted a past incident of an older rider seeking a bus that was not there. She urged the city council committee or another city body to contact TARTA and ask why the change is happening and whether it is necessary.
She told the committee that TARTA would hold public hearings "on the 29th of this month and on the 6th at Mott Branch Library" and said she feared riders would not hear of the change and would be left waiting in poor winter weather.
The committee chair replied, "We sure will. I appreciate you bringing that to our attention. I definitely will inquire." The committee did not record any formal action or vote during the meeting on this request.
