Board approves paver driveway for 1019 Southeast Third Street

The Ocala Historic Preservation Advisory Board voted to approve a certificate of appropriateness to replace an existing asphalt/concrete driveway with glacier-gray Old Town pavers at 1019 Southeast Third Street.
City staff said the house, constructed in 1928 in a brick vernacular style, is a contributing structure to the Ocala Historic District and that the property historically had a concrete driveway. Staff recommended the alteration as appropriate under the COA criteria (section 94-82(g)(1) and (g)(4)). "The property historically has had a concrete driveway as far as back we can go back into our records," staff said.
No applicant attended the meeting; staff said the applicant had confidence the change was straightforward. Board members discussed the existing driveway’s condition and the pavers’ shape and color. One board member noted tree roots were lifting portions of the existing pavement; staff confirmed photos in the packet show uneven, broken concrete.
A board member moved to accept the proposal (case file 328COA25-0026) and identified the relevant COA criteria in the motion; another member seconded. The board voted in favor and the motion carried.
The approval allows the applicant to pursue permits and installation consistent with city requirements; any tree- or site-related work remains subject to separate permits if required.
