Commission set to review AutoNation site-plan amendment for former off-lease property

The City of North Lauderdale will take up a major site-plan amendment to permit an AutoNation auction operation at the former Off Lease property after staff briefed the commission during an agenda-review workshop Sept. 8.
Community development staff told the commission the item was first heard July 29 and that staff met the neighborhood Aug. 26 at Calvary Chapel to gather concerns. The meeting drew “a few members” of the public, staff said; most questions addressed operations and vehicle stacking observed under the prior tenant. Staff reported AutoNation told neighbors its vehicles would remain on the property and residents were directed to contact AutoNation about any operational problems.
Staff said the site-plan amendment proposes only a building addition and does not change the permitted use of the site. The package also includes sign waivers and internal directional signage for auction and delivery traffic. “Staff itself has no major issues,” the community development presenter said, reiterating the July 29 review.
Commissioners did not ask follow-up questions during the workshop. The item was listed for formal consideration on the commission agenda the following day, when the applicant will present designs and answer questions in public session.
