Oakland Park CRA adopts $916,000 final budget for fiscal 2025-26

The Oakland Park Community Redevelopment Agency unanimously adopted a final budget of about $916,000 for fiscal year 2025-26 during a public hearing at its Sept. 8 meeting.
Assistant City Manager Andrew Thompson, presenting the budget, said the CRA’s revenues consist primarily of transfers from the city’s general fund, a small portion of rental income and remaining unspent transfer balances from prior incentive programming. “The expenditures are primarily operating grants and aid and personnel for the two positions in the CRA,” Thompson said, and the plan includes continued funding for incentive grants, support for the Find It in Oakland Park and Live Like a Local campaigns, and an additional investment in AI programming through the Placer AI program.
The board opened the required public hearing for the CRA budget and, seeing no speakers, closed the hearing before taking a motion to adopt the resolution. The roll-call vote recorded Vice Chair Ernst, Board Member Gordon, Board Member Newbold, Board Member Budhu and Chair Lonigan voting yes; the resolution passed 5-0.
Board members and staff also used the meeting to thank Cesar Gonzales, an assistant to the director who is leaving the CRA for another city role, and to commend Director Naysa Herrera for outreach and business-support efforts such as business roundtables and ribbon-cuttings.
Separately on the consent agenda the board approved CRA minutes dated Sept. 8, 2025, by roll-call vote.
The adopted budget funds ongoing incentive grants (with Qualified Census Tract-specific grants noted as separate and outside the CRA’s budget), two staff positions, marketing campaigns aimed at attracting commerce to Oakland Park and a new geographically based economic data subscription (Placer AI). The resolution adopting the budget covers the fiscal year beginning Oct. 1, 2025, and ending Sept. 30, 2026, and was passed after the public hearing produced no comments.
