Community Services Department highlights programs, national recognition and projects in year‑end review

Ashcraft told the board that the department was a finalist for the National Gold Medal Award and that the department's national accreditation and submitted strategic-plan video were part of the recognition. She highlighted operational improvements including streamlined activity registrations, a proactive social‑services follow-up process for first responders, and recruitment gains such as converting part‑time roles to full‑time library positions and a lifeguard trainee program that promoted trainees to full‑time roles.
The department reported program and outreach statistics: more than 114 volunteers supported events, 1,800+ total programs across library and recreation for the year, social-services partnerships for opioid prevention and youth services, and record engagement via social media (more than 119,000 combined Facebook/Instagram reach). Ashcraft also summarized capital and near‑term projects: two new play lots, Spiro and Bun Ryan field renovations (in progress), North Mesa picnic-ground master plan work, the Brewer Arena grandstand construction and the library outdoor-classroom construction starting soon.
Ashcraft emphasized ADA improvements completed across the golf course and other sites, ongoing implementation of an asset-management system (Cartograph) and sustainability initiatives such as converting gas golf carts to electric and adopting a county sustainability policy to reduce single‑use plastics.
The presentation concluded with a list of upcoming projects and programming plans and an invitation for board members to review project updates and participate in outreach.
