County Parks staff told the Parks and Recreation Board that a contracted field renovation project missed its Aug. 31 substantial-completion deadline and that only North Mesa Senior Field has been fully completed.
In a staff report Wendy noted crews have moved to Spiro Field and Bun Ryan; some grading and infield mix placement have occurred, but full turf establishment remains incomplete. "The substantial completion on this project was scheduled for August 31 and that timeline has been missed," Wendy said. She added contractors brought additional crews to accelerate work but cautioned that placing sod late in the season risks poor establishment and that the county will provide a further update in October.
Board members asked whether portions of Spiro or Bun Ryan could be finished before winter; staff responded that contractors are attempting to complete Spiro but that cold and dormancy reduce the likelihood that newly laid sod will root before freeze. Staff also said they will provide public updates and that residents have already inquired of on-site crews about the schedule.
The delayed timeline may affect planned use next season and could require revised sequencing of remaining work or additional contractor mobilization. Staff said they would report progress at the board's October meeting.
