Margate commission adopts tentative millage, tentative budget and passes first reading of 2025-26 operating budget

The Margate City Commission on Wednesday approved a proposed millage rate, adopted a tentative fiscal-year 2025–26 budget and passed first reading of an ordinance adopting the city—s operating budget for Oct. 1, 2025, through Sept. 30, 2026.

The commission voted unanimously to approve a proposed millage rate of 7.5378 mills per $1,000 of assessed valuation, which includes 0.4207 mills for voted debt service. The staff report states the operating millage component is 7.1171 mills, which the resolution describes as 7.47% higher than the rollback rate of 6.6221. The resolution will return for a second reading on Sept. 17.

Commissioners also voted unanimously to adopt a tentative budget for fiscal year 2025–26 and to authorize administration to operate under that tentative budget under Florida law until the final budget is adopted. That resolution likewise will return for a second reading on Sept. 17 at 6 p.m.
