The Miramar City Commission on Sept. 3, 2025, approved several consent and legislative items during a largely procedural portion of the meeting. The commission voted unanimously on each item recorded below.
Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL) payment and contract extension (Item 11) The commission approved a first amendment to the city’s exclusive leasing agreement with Jones Lang LaSalle America Inc. to authorize additional compensation for services provided in the current fiscal year. Staff described the action as a cleanup item to permit payment of a second installment to the leasing broker (approximately $62,593); the overall fiscal-year payment to JLL will exceed the city’s $75,000 single-department threshold and thus required commission approval. The commission approved the extension and payment; staff said services that generated the fee had already been performed and the extension primarily permits payment through May 2026.
Francesca’s Charcoal Chicken lease amendment (Item 12) The commission approved a first amendment to the lease between the city (lessor) and Francesca’s Chicken Miramar LLC (lessee) to extend the rent grace period by six months (bringing total grace days to 547) or until the earlier of certificate-of-occupancy or grand opening. Staff said the tenant is actively constructing the interior and expects to open in November or December 2025; the amendment keeps the base rent and lease term unchanged. The commission approved the requested extension unanimously.
Land‑development code amendment: vacation rentals (Item 13) On second reading, the commission adopted an ordinance amending the city’s land development code (chapter 4, section 405.11) to remove the minimum general liability insurance coverage requirement for vacation rentals. Staff said there were no changes since first reading. The commission unanimously approved the ordinance on second reading.
Roll calls: For each item the roll calls recorded Commissioner Chambers, Commissioner Scheherazade, Vice Mayor Yvette Colburn and Commissioner Edwards voting yes; the mayor did not attend the meeting and was absent from the roll calls.
