Council approves assessing budget as staff warn town remains below target for annual property measurements

Staff said current funding supports roughly 6— to 16% of properties annually, which would take many years to reach full coverage if unchanged. The proposed budget increases professional-services spending to $43,700 and adds $2,000 for temporary help to assist with data entry and measuring work.
Councilors asked whether the town risks state intervention if it falls behind on revaluation schedules. Staff said the town is on the five-year revaluation schedule with a revaluation due in 2028 but acknowledged current staffing and funding levels slow progress on the preferred measurement cadence.
A motion to approve the assessing budget passed on roll call. Administrators noted the town could, if necessary, fund a larger, one-time revaluation or use capital and warrant-article tools, but that option was not part of the operating budget discussion.
