Carson City proclaims September National Preparedness Month and marks opening of Fire Station 55/EOC

In the proclamation, the city cited Carson City’s historical vulnerabilities to wildfires, flooding, severe weather and earthquakes and noted that preparedness is a community responsibility supported by federal, state, local, tribal, private and nonprofit partners. The mayor set the public opening for 1:00 p.m. at Bud I Way and encouraged residents to attend.
City officials emphasized that Fire Station 55 will host the Emergency Operations Center, training facilities and backup dispatch functions. Deputy City Manager Stephanie Hicks and City Manager Martel referenced the station during the strategic-plan presentation and later city-manager remarks, and the city encouraged the public to visit the facility during the scheduled opening.
City staff also tied the proclamation to National Preparedness Month messaging: making and practicing a plan and leveraging volunteer and partner resources. The city reminded the public of the opening event and related community preparedness activities.
