The Health, Human Services & Public Safety Committee voted 5-0 to move a resolution (CR-89-2025) that extends the reporting deadline for the Healthy Food and Prince George’s County Correctional Facility Task Force to no later than Nov. 30, 2027.
Committee Vice Chair Oriada, who sponsored the extension, said the additional time will allow the task force to continue reviewing and recommending improvements to food standards, procurement policies and nutritional adequacy at county correctional facilities. The resolution extends work originally established by CR-06-2024.
David Williams, legislative budget and policy analyst, presented the fiscal impact statement and said the budget and policy division anticipates a small adverse fiscal impact for administrative expenditures (staffing and technical supplies) that should be absorbable within the existing legislative budget. Office of Law counsel stated the resolution is in proper legislative form and raised no legal impediments. Al Owens, speaking for the county executive, said the administration supports the resolution and asked for a favorable recommendation.
A motion to move the resolution favorably carried on a 5-0 roll call: Chair Blige (yes), Vice Chair Fisher (yes), Council Member Olson (yes), Council Vice Chair Oriada (yes) and Council Member Watson (yes).
