Report shows Jennings County saved about $521,000 so far from 2019 energy project

A county contractor reported to the board that Jennings County's 2019 guaranteed energy savings project has delivered about $521,000 in savings to date.
Mark Frost, representing the contractor (formerly Johnson Melas, now Verity), told commissioners the original project cost was about $1.4 million and included LED lighting retrofits, a standing-seam roof, new building controls and a solar array. Frost said most of the solar arrays are monitored and performing at expected levels; a few smaller arrays at the recycle and fairgrounds remain unmonitored and were modeled rather than measured.
Frost asked the board to sign the state reporting forms so he could submit them to the Department of Local Government Finance. A commissioner moved to sign the report; the motion carried unanimously, and Frost said he will submit the reports and continue to monitor solar-array performance.
The contractor said the solar arrays are tracked monthly and that the company schedules follow-up as faults or performance issues appear. Commissioners noted rising electricity rates and viewed the project's savings as a partial hedge against future cost increases.
