Payson City Council on Sept. 17 approved a three-item consent agenda and heard staff reports about upcoming interlocal and community events.
The consent agenda included approval of the Sept. 3, 2025 council minutes; a proclamation recognizing Fire Protection Week; and confirmation of the city’s monthly financial information. A council member moved to approve the consent agenda and a second was recorded. During the roll call the council recorded "yes" votes for Council Hyatt, Council Moss, Council Rowley and Council Hubert; the motion carried.
Why it matters: approving routine minutes and financial reports is standard procedure that allows the council and staff to proceed with business and public events. The council’s consent vote keeps administrative processes and scheduled community events on track.
In staff reports, the mayor and staff invited council members to attend a Bureau of Reclamation conversion-contract signing the following day at the Bureau office in South Provo; the event will include canal companies and the cities of Spanish Fork, Salem and Payson. Staff also announced an employee appreciation luncheon featuring speaker Mike Schlappe, a Paralympian, and asked council members to attend as schedules allow.
Robert (city staff) reminded the council of two weekend events: Festival Latino de Payson on Saturday (10:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.) at the Peteetneet and an Emergency Preparedness Fair (8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.) with vendors, presenters and a helicopter display. He also noted the EmTech Payson campus ribbon-cutting Friday at 10:30 a.m., followed by an open house.
Councilmember Hila publicly thanked Chris Phillips and Stadium Cinemas for years of service to the community and said the theater has been sold to an out-of-state company; she said the buyer plans to show more family films in Payson. Councilmember Moss and others offered condolences and remarks in response to a recent shooting north of Payson; Moss read prepared remarks about the victim.
The council had no other action items and moved to adjourn; the motion to adjourn passed with the recorded voice vote of "ayes."
