The Grand Island Town Board approved two motions at the workshop and discussed several administrative personnel and office-security items.
First, the board voted to allow the highway superintendent's secretary to work from home during snow events. A board member moved the motion and another board member seconded; the meeting record captures verbal "Aye" responses and the chair declared the motion carried. The board discussed that the remote work authorization is intended for snow events only, that the arrangement is expected to be temporary while a new crew transitions in, and that the highway deputy will resume oversight afterward.
Second, the board voted to authorize town engineering to submit the Vets Park drainage plan to New York State Parks for review, as required by the grant, and to officially put the project out to bid upon State Parks' completion of their review. The motion was moved and seconded; board members again responded "Aye" and the chair declared the motion carried. Board members noted the submission to State Parks is a grant requirement and that some final printing and paperwork were being completed before formal submission.
Separately, board members discussed several administrative personnel issues without taking formal action at the workshop: code-enforcement responses to structure fires and how part-time staff who respond to emergency calls are compensated (comp time vs. pay), the status change process for seasonal or part-time parks employees returning after an inactive period, and restricting after-hours access to the accounting office because it contains personnel records. Board members directed staff to review handbook provisions and to put any required status-change items or policy modifications on an upcoming agenda. The board also moved into executive session later in the meeting for items the chair identified as appropriate for closed discussion.
