Board denies permit for commercial truck yard; owner given 30 days to remove vehicles

Marion County commissioners unanimously denied a special-use permit request on Sept. 5 that would have allowed parking of seven commercial trucks and nine trailers on a one-acre lot (Case 250902SU). Staff had recommended denial and flagged safety and circulation concerns after code enforcement observed trucks backing onto State Highway 475A.
Eric Kramer of Growth Services briefed the board and showed photographs taken by code enforcement that documented multiple tractors and trailers parked on the property and vehicles attempting to back from the state highway into the driveway. Code enforcement supervisor Tom Sapp told the board he observed a driver backing at 475A and said traffic was stopped for up to 30 minutes while the maneuver took place, creating a public-safety concern.
The property owner, Caesar Amparo, told the board he runs Family and Para Transportation and said some vehicles are kept elsewhere and he planned to sell a number of units; he asked for time to remove equipment. A neighbor, Van Aiken, spoke in support if the owner could comply with staff conditions; other neighbors did not speak.
Commissioner Zalick moved to deny the special-use permit and Commissioner Curry seconded. Commissioners voted unanimously to deny the request and to require the owner to remove the additional trucks and trailers within 30 days.
Outcome: Case 250902SU denied; applicant given 30 days to remove vehicles.
