County and LCPS outline prevention, treatment and a recovery high school; officials cite prevention gains but note unmet need

Loudoun County behavioral-health officials, LCPS staff and law enforcement on Sept. 15 told the joint committee about countywide prevention, treatment and recovery efforts aimed at reducing youth substance use and overdose risk.
"Prevention is one of the most powerful tools we have in protecting our youth," said Evan Braff, Loudoun County opiate response coordinator, describing county efforts that include training, community outreach and coordination across schools, law enforcement and community-based organizations.
Braff and Margaret Graham, director of the Loudoun County Department of Mental Health, Substance Abuse and Developmental Services (MH SADS), described programs that aim to build awareness and capacity, including Naloxone (Narcan) training, mental-health-first-aid courses, and prevention curricula delivered through the Raising Education Achievement and Leadership (Camp Reel/Club Reel) programming.
