Chatham County on Monday approved a resolution authorizing a $31,000 local match to support an N.C. Department of Transportation (5310) capital purchase of service grant that funds transportation for residents age 60 and over.
Zach Deaton, deputy director of Aging Services, said the grant would allow the county to continue partnering with Chatham Transit Network to provide rides for older adults to senior centers, grocery shopping and medical appointments when funding allows. "This will enable our department to continue partnering with Chatham Transit Network and providing essential transportation services for individuals 60 years of age and greater," Deaton told the board.
Commissioners voted to adopt the resolution authorizing the county's 10% local match. No members of the public signed up to speak for or against the grant during the public hearing.
Ending: With board approval, Aging Services will submit the required paperwork to DOT and proceed with the grant application process; if awarded, the funds will extend transportation capacity for older residents.
