Commission approves regional HUD consolidated-plan memorandum of understanding

The San Benito City Commission approved a memorandum of understanding to participate in a regional five-year Consolidated and Strategic Plan required by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
Staff said the regional plan will be prepared jointly with neighboring cities named in the MOU and that San Benito’s share of the planning cost is smaller because the city is a smaller jurisdiction. ‘‘It’s based off of the size and on the treatment that usually,’’ a staff member said when asked about cost allocation.
The MOU will allow the partner municipalities to submit a consolidated plan to HUD together and to share data and planning resources; staff said one jurisdiction will take the lead on project management while each city provides local data. Commissioners approved the MOU subject to final administrative review.
The action was approved by voice vote; staff said the MOU will be returned to the city for signature and finalization after the standard legal and financial review.
