SBA reminds Leander residents of disaster loans and local outreach center after July flooding

Kim Wetherbee, a public information officer with the SBA Office of Disaster Recovery and Resilience, said federal low‑interest disaster loans are available for businesses that suffered physical damage (loans up to $2,000,000; interest rates as low as 4%) and for economic injury (applications open; deadline April 6 next year). She said homeowners can apply for up to $500,000 to repair or replace a physical home (rates as low as 2.8%) and for up to $100,000 for personal property loss; those programs have different deadlines.
Wetherbee said there is no fee to apply, applicants do not have to wait for an insurer’s payout to apply, borrowers face no prepayment penalty and there are no payments or interest for the first 12 months. She told council that the State of Texas requested a 30‑day extension for the SBA physical‑damage program and that the new deadline for the physical program is Sept. 28. The economic‑injury disaster loan deadline is April 6 of the following year.
Wetherbee said a disaster outreach center is operating at Round Mountain Baptist Church (Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m.–7 p.m.) and that FEMA representatives are also present. She encouraged residents who cannot reach the center to apply online at sba.gov/disaster.
Council members asked for the outreach‑center hours and whether the Georgetown site remained open; Wetherbee said Round Mountain Baptist Church is open Monday–Saturday and that the Georgetown location was no longer operating.
