Stafford’s STEM Magnet Academy hosted a delegation of faculty and students from universities in Taiwan to observe the district’s STEM and AI-focused instructional programs, Stafford City Council member Alice Chen said during an introduction.
Chen said the delegation included faculty involved in overseas internship programs and students preparing for careers in education. Delegation members who spoke identified themselves as Jessie Chang (Sichuan University), Gloria Brown (visitor representing a Taiwanese delegation), Crystal Young (Suzhou University) and Fiona Chang; they described interest in Stafford’s magnet approach to STEAM and in exchanges on pedagogy and culture.
“AI is a key in the future,” Chen said, describing the delegation’s goal of exchanging approaches to teaching science, math and culture. She voiced hope the visit would lead to more opportunities for student and teacher exchanges between Stafford and Taiwanese universities.
Presenters emphasized cultural exchange as part of the program: staff and visitors discussed inspiring students to become global citizens and combining STEM instruction with cultural learning. No formal agreements, funding arrangements or multi-year exchange contracts were announced during the visit.
City officials said they welcomed the international visitors and described the meeting as an opportunity to showcase Stafford’s STEM Magnet Academy and to explore future collaboration that could include reciprocal visits of teachers and students.
