Overland Park council approves maintenance plan, truck-route ordinance and construction contracts; several awards pass unanimously

The Overland Park City Council on Sept. 15 approved a package of routine and capital items including the 2026 infrastructure maintenance program, an ordinance designating a truck route, a guaranteed maximum price for bridge repairs and a bid award for a generator replacement.
Council members voted 9-0 to approve the consent agenda and later enacted the maintenance program and other contract awards after brief discussion. The actions included a recommendation to adopt ordinance TR 3,497 to designate U.S. 160 from Schweitzer to Antioch as a truck route; approval of a guaranteed maximum price (GMP) task order for repairs to 70 Fifth Street over BNSF in Turkey Creek; and an award for a replacement generator at the fire training center.
The council’s public-safety report also noted a committee-level approval of a 10-year contract to consolidate the police department’s disparate technology systems; Council Member Cheatham said the new ecosystem should reduce redundant systems and improve transparency.
