The Overland Park Public Works Committee on Sept. 15 recommended that the City Council adopt ordinance TR3497 to expand the city’s designated truck routes to include 160th Street from Schweitzer to Antioch.
Brian Geiger, traffic engineer, told the committee the change reflects a recent thoroughfare upgrade on that stretch completed within the last 12 months and noted the city typically updates truck routes annually. “This is an update to the truck route ordinance, TR3497,” Geiger said, explaining the expansion follows completion of the roadway improvements.
The committee voted unanimously to recommend Council approval. Council member Vermaert moved the recommendation and council member Borlaaza seconded; committee members voiced no opposition.
The ordinance is a recommendation to the full City Council; committee discussion did not reference any changes to vehicle weight limits or enforcement language in the ordinance text. The staff presentation did not cite additional legal authorities beyond the ordinance number and standard administrative practice for annual updates.
The committee moved on after the unanimous vote.
