Prosper Police Officer Maria Nieves and Officer Carlos Riojas were recognized during the Sept. 16 council meeting for life-saving actions during a July 24 incident in which they rescued a child entangled in vegetation after a kayak flip.
Police leadership described the officers' actions and presented a life-saving award recommendation from the meritorious conduct board. The police chief showed body-worn camera footage to council members and attendees; Mayor David F. Bristol thanked the officers for their calm response and the comfort they provided to the child.
Later in the meeting, following executive session, the Town Council voted to ratify the Prosper Economic Development Corporation's purchase of real property at 380 West Broadway in Prosper. The council also voted unanimously on a slate of appointments to boards and commissions, including new and reappointments to the Prosper Economic Development Corporation, Planning and Zoning Commission, Board of Adjustments, Parks and Recreation Board, Library Board, Downtown Advisory Committee and the Community Engagement Committee.
Appointments announced by council included (new or confirmed): Prosper EDC ' Grant Mindlin and Chris Kern; Planning and Zoning ' Brett Butler and Deborah Daniel; Board of Adjustments ' Mark Mosner and Harry Hickey; Parks ' Valerie Rodriguez and Deb Horan; Library ' Holly D. and Brian Pastorek; Downtown ' Charles Cotton; Community Engagement Committee appointments also named in the motion.
