The North Las Vegas Parks, Arts, Recreation, and Culture Advisory Board elected Alex Castillo as chair and Ian Brown as vice chair during its Sept. 9 meeting. The board also approved the meeting agenda and the minutes from Aug. 12, 2025.
The first nomination for chair — Member Sandra Ward — failed after several board members vocalized opposition. Board member Ramirez stated she opposed the Ward nomination on the record; Board member Castillo and Member Ward also said “I oppose” during that vote. After the Ward nomination failed, Board member Ramirez nominated Alex Castillo; the board then approved Castillo’s selection and the chair formally assumed the meeting duties.
For vice chair, members nominated and approved Ian Brown. A motion to approve the meeting agenda was made and carried, and the consent agenda — which included approval of the Aug. 12 minutes — was approved after a motion from Board member Brown and a second from Member Ward.
The meeting record shows named votes against the Ward nomination (Ramirez, Castillo and Ward). Other roll-call votes were conducted by voice and the clerk recorded the motions as passed; individual votes were not recorded by name in those instances.
The board convened with a quorum present and otherwise proceeded to regular business following the officer elections.
