Planning commission approves rezoning for proposed McDonald’s site at Bell Parkway

The Midland Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously recommended approval to rezone a vacant lot at the southwest corner of Thomason Drive and Beale Parkway – 200 Bell Parkway – from PD for housing to RR Regional Retail to allow development of a McDonald’s; staff recommended approval and no public opposition was recorded at the hearing.
The Midland Planning and Zoning Commission voted 7-0 to recommend approval of a rezoning request that would allow a McDonald’s at 200 Bell Parkway, at the southwest corner of Thomason Drive and Beale Parkway in District 4. The matter will be forwarded to Midland City Council for a final decision.
Planner (presenting) described the site as vacant, currently zoned PD for housing development, with adjacent land to the north already zoned RR and a car wash and gas station nearby. The staff presentation noted the Tall City Tomorrow plan designates the area as community commercial and that no established policies apply specifically to the site; staff reported no objections and recommended approval.
Steven (representative for Skyline Civil Group) introduced himself and the applicant’s request and said, “just pretty straightforward request here, rezoning for a proposed McDonald's. ... Appreciate your time.” No members of the public spoke in favor or opposition during the public hearing.
Commissioner Martin moved to approve the request and Commissioner Garza seconded the motion. The commission recorded a unanimous vote, 7-0, in favor of recommending approval to City Council.
Because this is a recommendation, the City Council will take the final vote on the rezoning request.
