City manager reports progress, delays on Lakeway transportation bond projects; Wild Cherry/Flint Rock signal expected in early 2026

- Culverts and drainage: The city completed culvert upgrades at Lakeway Drive and Top of the Lake; both performed well during July flooding, Joseph said.
- Resurfacing: Mill-and-overlay resurfacing finished on Lakeway Drive, Lakeway Boulevard and Lomond’s Crossing.
- Traffic signals: A signal at 620 and the Bella Montagna access (Flamingo/Palazzo Alto) is operational in a temporary configuration pending the future 620 widening. The Wild Cherry and Flint Rock Road signal is under construction; staff expects work to begin in October with completion targeted for January 2026.
- Burrell Street and Main Street: The city has completed a feasibility study that recommends a re-aligned Burrell Street to reduce bridge span and avoid floodplain; geotechnical work is under way and staff is negotiating right-of-way acquisition with a cooperative property owner.
Grant opportunity and next steps
- Joseph said staff has advanced a Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO) grant application that, if awarded, would fund about $3 million in multimodal improvements along Lakeway Boulevard; Lakeway’s match would be approximately $800,000 if the city chooses to accept the award.
- Staff reported the bond program remains generally in good standing — several projects came in under budget, freeing funds for additional work — but cautioned that upcoming bridge and intersection projects will consume reserves.
