The Sedona City Council on Sept. 9 unanimously approved a $248,025 linking agreement with Musco Sports Lighting LLC to install LED lighting at the Posse Grounds multi‑use field.
Parks and Recreation Director Josh Bruin told the council the lights will serve local groups including AYSO youth soccer, an adult Monday soccer group and the Sedona ultimate Frisbee program, and will allow safer evening use. "Providing lights on this field, especially in the wintertime, but year round, provides a safer, more flexible scheduling," Bruin said.
Bruin and project manager Larry Farhat said the design is dark‑sky compliant with shielded fixtures and dimming controls tied to reservations. Bruin said Musco’s design uses a "total light control luminaire" that keeps measurable glare off adjacent properties; he described the planned illumination as about "21.2 foot candles across the playing surface," a recreational‑level lighting standard, and noted the system can be dimmed near the 10 p.m. shutoff. Farhat confirmed the lights will dim in stages before powering off at 10 p.m.
Bruin told council construction would likely begin in mid‑November 2025 pending permitting. The project is funded from the city’s FY‑26 Capital Improvement Program line CIPPR‑12. Councilor Kinsella moved to approve the linking agreement; the motion was seconded and carried unanimously.

Project proponents said the LED system and remote control capability were selected to align with Sedona’s Climate Action Plan while preserving the city’s dark‑sky designation.
